There's a landfill near Albuquerque's Bosque that many people actually want to visit. it's filled with acres of hidden history News 13s Rachel Knapp is live at the glass graveyard with more Rachel Dean this is part of the Rio Grande Valley State Park you can find broken bottles and pieces of glass like this one that covers 20 acres it's a perfect spot for treasure hunters we've got to find some good pieces it's one of Albuquerque's best-kept secrets and you definitely know you've stumbled upon it when you hear as we call it the old river landfill also a Kay known as the Glass Beach as part of Albuquerque's history.
The glass graveyard is near the barela's Little League field and open to the public but not everyone knows about it no I have not this is the first time hearing about it I've never heard of it it's right over there the twenty acre site used to be the city's old River landfill from 1920 until 1948 it has since been filled with dirt but a lot of the old glass pieces remain so what do we have left over here we have a lot of glass a lot of soil a lot of metal bricks and other pottery type things or jars and the site sure does have a lot of them so you'll find a medicine type bottles somebody's old half tea cup so got some broken China it's a scavengers paradise so obviously somebody was doing some digging and they found some old glass the city says not many people come here but if they find it they hope people treat it like a treasure house value in the sense that this really is part of our history although the site is a former landfil.
The city says they do not want people to come and dump their trash here the city also adds that if you do find this place they don't want you taking away a little bits of pieces of it back to you all right Rachel thank you now as far as environmental concerns the city says that site is safe to visit they caution people of course to be careful and wear proper clothing since you will be surrounded by glass
