When looking for a human anatomy study guide, there are a few things that a prospective customer should consider. The study guide should include outlines of the major systems of the human body. These systems include the skin system, the muscular system, the skeletal system, the circulatory system, the nervous system, the lymphatic system, the respiratory system and the digestive system. Human anatomy study guides that do not include these systems should not be trusted, as they have left out a large part of the human anatomy.

The skin system is the largest organ of the body. A human anatomy study guide should definitely include a portion on skin. Specifically, the study guide should mention that skin is divided into three layers. The top layer is the epidermis. This is the weatherproof layer that protects us from microbes and the elements. The dermis is the next layer down, and here is where sweat glands and hair follicles are located. The lowest layer is beneath the dermis, called the hypodermis. This layer holds the fat present under the skin, which is used as heat insulation.

The muscular system is also a group that should be included in a human anatomy and physiology study guide. The muscles in the human body can be separated into three categories, and a study guide should definitely mention this. The visceral muscles control the movements of your organs, such as the muscles in the stomach that help digestion. The cardiac muscles are only found in and around the heart. These two muscle types are involuntary, meaning your body does them without you telling it to. Skeletal muscles are the only type of voluntary muscle, and these muscles move the skeleton allowing a person to walk, talk and pretty much anything else they would like to do.

A human anatomy study guide should also make a point to mention the circulatory system. This system involves the blood. Blood is the transport system of the body, and moves nutrients, oxygen, hormones and waste throughout it. It is filled with oxygen in the lungs and then distributes this throughout all the extremities via veins and capillaries. Without blood, nothing in the body would function.

The nervous system is another main system that should be included in a human anatomy study guide. The nervous system includes the brain and the spinal cord, which transmit and receive electrical impulses. These impulses are interpreted by the brain to give the organism an idea of what is happening in the world around them. Sensations like cold, hot, hungry and tired would not be possible without the nervous system. The brain is the most complicated organ in the human body, and there is much we still do not know about it’s functions.

The skeletal system should also be found on a study guide for human anatomy. The skeleton is what gives the human body it’s shape and protects all the soft organs housed inside. There are two main groups of the skeleton. The axial group is one, which includes the skull, rib cage and spinal column. The other is this appendicular group, which includes the limbs, shoulders and pelvis.

Yet another system that a good anatomy study guide should not be without is the respiratory system. This system takes oxygen from the air through the mouth and moves it into the lungs. Here, the oxygen is transferred to the blood. Mucus plays an important role in the respiratory system as it catches foreign articles before they enter the body.

The lymphatic system also deserves a spot on a good study guide. The lymph nodes distribute white blood cells to the body and serves as a drainage system. The spleen is a major contributor in this system, as it takes wastes and impurities from the blood and infuses it with T-cells and B-cells. These cells are the main disease fighting cells in the human body, and the lymphatic system is responsible for distributing them.

A good human anatomy study guide would not be compete without a section reviewing the digestive system. This system starts at the
